WinSETT SPECIAL INITIATIVES

Each year, WinSETT works together with sponsors and partners to develop and deliver major programs and projects related to women and employers in all SETT sectors. This work results in innovative change and more supportive workplaces for women and under-represented groups in science, engineering, trades, and technology across Canada.

CONNECTING TRADESWOMEN: OVERCOMING ISOLATION FOR WOMEN IN TRADES

Partially funded by the Government of Canada’s Apprenticeship Strategy, this 36-month project is enabling WinSETT to build and deliver mentorship resources specifically designed to encourage and support women on their journey to trades certification. Retention and completion rates for women in Red Seal trades continue to be well behind those of their male counterparts. By building and supporting a community of tradeswomen, WinSETT hopes to increase the participation and retention of women in construction and industrial trades. Learn more about this project here.

2023-2024

MODERNIZATION OF WinSETT’S ONLINE WORKSHOPS

Over the course of this 12-month project, WinSETT chose and implemented an online, learning-management system to adapt its delivery of online Skill Builders for the post-pandemic virtual environment. Funding for this project was provided by the Community Services Recovery Fund, a one-time $400 million investment from the Government of Canada to support community service organizations as they adapt and modernize their organizations.

2021-2024

REDUCING SYSTEMIC BARRIERS IN SCIENCE, ENGINEERING, TRADES AND TECHNOLOGY TO ADVANCE MORE WOMEN IN SETT

During this 30-month project, WinSETT enabled organizations and empowered women to address systemic barriers in science, engineering, trades and technology (SETT) workplaces. Specifically, work was undertaken to develop a WinSETT maturity model to assist organizations on their EDI journey, deliver an EDI Certificate Program for managers of SETT women to improve workplace culture and develop a coaching program to support women looking to implement new professional skills.  We also updated our website to make it more accessible and intuitive. Like all WinSETT initiatives, our goal was to position women in SETT for success!

This initiative was made possible with funding from Women and Gender Equality Canada.
