We have exciting news to share on our Connecting Tradeswomen project, funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Canadian Apprenticeship Strategy.
We asked tradeswomen what they wanted and they have told us! Through many conversations and in response to our survey question “What would be most beneficial to you to support your career in the skilled trades?” the majority of respondents indicated ‘professional and leadership skills training’. Of professional development topics of interest, 73% of respondents selected ‘leadership skill development’. An overwhelming majority also indicated they would be interested in participating in mentorship. And how might tradeswomen want to access these resources? Most respondents preferred a blend of in-person sessions with online resources and learning.
We have taken this feedback and input and used it to inform the next phase of our project. We are developing materials and planning to host in-person Empowerment Roadshow events in select cities across the country. These single day events will be an opportunity for women in the skilled trades to network, attend leadership development sessions and access mentorship resources. Participants at the Roadshows will also gain access to additional online resources and connection to sustain the relationships made during the in-person events.
The Empowerment Roadshow events will be interactive and engaging – not a typical boring day of getting talked at! Tradeswomen in industrial and construction trades at all career stages are welcome to attend. These events will be free for tradeswomen.
Our first Empowerment Roadshow event will be hosted at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in Edmonton on Thursday October 3, 2024. We have a second event in the works for November in the Vancouver area. More dates and locations to come. Scan the QR code or visit this link to sign-up for more information and to be notified of upcoming dates and locations! Registration for our in-person events will be open by the end of summer! We look forward to seeing you there.
